SynopsisEdit

An adaptation of Victor Hugo’s 1862 novel. Jean Valjean, condemned to 19 years’ hard labor for stealing a loaf of bread, breaks parole, only to be pursued by obsessional police inspector Javert. Valjean joins the doomed 1832 student uprising in Paris and saves the life of Marius, who is in love with his adopted daughter, Cosette.
