The Lyceum Theatre in London dates all the way back to 1772 when it was simply a room for exhibitions and concerts near the current site. The present building opened in 1834 and was built under the designs of Samuel Beazley. Since opening it has been used for numerous purposes such as a chapel, a circus and a ballroom, until it was finally utilised as a traditional theatre. From 1986 the building was out of use for 10 years as it was restored.

The theatre was also used as a concert venue in the 60s and 70s for legendary bands sucj as The Who, U2, Queen, The Smiths and Led Zeppelin, but by the mid 90s the Lyceum focused on musicals, showing Oklahoma! and Jesus Christ Superstar.

Since 1999 the Lyceum Theatre has been home to Disney's The Lion King which has become one of the most successful shows in West End history.
